Well done to our ten Year 6 basketballers who played so well at Heaton Manor yesterday! They were joint top of the final league table but were piped to the title on baskets scored! Some super performances and they had a great time!
Well done to our Year 5 basketball team who reached the finals of the Hoops for Health competition. They played East Gosforth prior to the Eagles match with the Glasgow Giants. The game went to a shoot off in which both teams scored one basket each. It then went to sudden death with David scoring the winning basket. That meant a final at half time in the main game. In a closely fought game, a shoot off was needed again but this time we lost out! Well done to all the children and thanks to the supporters who came along as well!!!
Here are some clips from the matches as well.
Well done to all the Year 5 children who represented the school at the Newcastle Eagles, Hoops for Health Competition today! They took part against 48 other teams and we qualified for the finals in a couple of weeks. All teams qualified from the 6 team round robin groups (each team won 4 out of 5 matches) and then competed in the play offs (funnily against each other in the round of 16 and then the round of 8). All of them were an absolute credit to the school! Well done!
Year 5 and 6 have had a fun afternoon with the team from Newcastle Eagles ‘Hoops for Health’ project. They have been learning about healthy lifestyles and getting to improve their skills as well. Year 5 will get some further chances to have some coaching sessions after half term and the chance to represent the school at a competition early in the new year. Keep practising those skills!
Well done to the Year 3/4 and 5/6 footballers and the Year 5/6 Basketball Team that took part in the Games 500 at Gosforth Academy today. Unbelievably they didn’t lose a match between them in their three competitions coming home with a Gold and Bronze medal. The Year 3/4 team won their final, conceding only one goal in six matches on a penalty shoot out in the final! Well done to the super goalie Faraz who made some stunning saves in that shoot out…
The Year 5/6 team were mightily unlucky not to progress to the semis losing out on goal difference in their league (and that was a last second winner!) and the Basketball team did extremely well winning four matches and drawing one on their way to the 3rd/4th place play off. You were all amazing and represented the school superbly!
Here’s hoping for more success on Day 2 and 3!
