Over the last two afternoons, we have hosted the level two citywide Quadkids events. On Wednesday 12 schools competed in the Year 3/4 competition and 10 school this afternoon in the Year 5/6 event.
Our children were brilliant and gave their all. What was most impressive was the enthusiasm and ability to improve their scores from one attempt to the next. Although we will have to wait to find out the winners and qualifiers for the regional finals I am so impressed with the effort and attitude they all displayed. They are all winners!
Enjoy the pics!
On Monday morning, eighteen of our children from Year 5 and 6 went to represent Newcastle, alongside Gosforth Central Middle School at the regional indoor sporthall athletics finals. There were some mighty performances from all our children who gave 100% and finished 5th with 548 points. This was only 16 points behind third place! There was even a teacher’s javelin competition with Mr Digby finishing a creditable second…
Well done to all! A hugely enjoyable performance
Well done to Darren and Lucy and the children from Benton Park who went to the Parallel Indoor Sports Event last week! This team were representing Newcastle having won through the previous event and managed to win a silver medal…
They had a great time and were a credit to themselves and the school.
A great performance by our Year 3 and 4 boys and girls last week saw them finish in silver medal position and qualify for the stage three regional finals in the Quadkids event. The thirteen schools had to complete four events (50m sprint, 400m race, howler throw and standing long jump) with the results being converted into points. We ended up with a total of 1377pts just nine behind the winners, Benton Park and over one hundred ahead of Hotspur in bronze. All the children performed extremely well and we had the gold and silver individual points scorers for the boys (James D with 215pts and Jamie R-E with 211pts!!).
The medal haul just kept growing on Saturday as everyone had a great time and produced some amazing results!
In the archery competition, Abdel won gold in the Year 4 category with an outstanding score of 80 and Alexander followed this up with a silver in the Year 5 age group.
In table tennis, Callum and Daniel both reached the semi finals. Daniel went on to win gold whilst Callum gallantly lost in a tight fought 3/4 place play off (always the hardest match to lose).
On the athletics field the Yr 5/6 team were excellent and only came 50pts behind the winners claiming a hard fought silver (enough to put them through to the level 3 regional finals!).
Last but not least, the badminton boys were enthusiastic throughout and in their skills circuit won an impressive gold!
So our final medal count was 5 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze! Well done to all who participated and to all the staff and parents who organised and supported the children! It was noticeable to see how many Cragside supporters there were at each event!
